I just read up on a note that was posted in the Apple Quicktime Message board, saying the "PNG" codec is superior to the "Animation" codec for alpha channel video, especially for playback. I am testing the same Sketchup video back to back to see if I get smoother playback in Quartz Composer for these videos. That is a potentially exciting bit of discovery...if you're a giant video Nerd! I'm sure you are all on the edge of your seats waiting for the results, I know I am! :)

Circuit Bent Video Painter- work in progress...

I captured a bunch of video from a circuit bent video painter kid's toy and exported all the frames out to stills. I am deleting all the garbage frames, and will recompress to a video with only the GOOD frames when I'm done. Tedious, but ultimately rewarding. Here's a still frame I thought was particularly nice. I really like the color created by the video painter and glitched by my video mixer, along with the keyed frame on top of it. This was all analog composition, the computer was only used to capture the video feed.

New Feedbacker Patch!

Here is a screenshot I just took from my test of a new Quartz Composer Feedback patch, with integrated MIDI control of many of the parameters of the patch. Twiddling knobs and sliders are a pure delight with these kinds of visuals, I can't wait to add this into my main VJ patch, which has gotten quite hairy (again) I am now on Version 4.4, and started designing 5.0, with iPhone control of video goodies. This is going to be an exciting year for visuals, stay tuned for more mayhem!

yay for Version 3! the box was modified so it hinges to the side, with the laptop on the right and mixer to the left. This made the setup MUCH easier, and I was no longer hidden behind a wall of equipment.

The kind owners at Siam Best welcomed us to take over to create a lounge atmosphere for the evening with lighting, DJs, and of course VISUALS! This was mostly a laid back set, I ran mostly space exploration and nature stuff, with some extra goodies keyed over the top, though towards they end when they cranked it up, I followed suit, bringing in more glitchy amped up madness, and couldn't resist mixing in some Clutch Cargo, always looks good.

New Years Eve Party 2010 was a great Time! We cruised around the Marina Del Rey Harbor at midnight to see the fireworks show, and I ran a custom Quartz Composer countdown timer, with visuals triggered at the end. I also took the opportunity to flood the place out with the fog machine, not too difficult on a small size area of a yacht's living room! The lights looked great, and the "Scorpion" added some great energy to the post countdown action!

doing a complete setup was good, from all video gear to projector and stand. didn't have to hand a screen, which saved a lot of time.

My VJ setup on a houseboat. Laptop, MIDI knobs and slider controls, Circuit Bent Video Mixer, DVD player, iPod with video out, 4 way switcher, live camera feed, and top it all off with a 2 way dirty mixer. The Video was routed into and out of the mixer and laptop, with a feedback loop coming through the 4 way switcher back in to the mixer.

A beautiful day with a great group of people in attendance. We cruised around the harbor in Marina Del Rey for a few hours, jamming to the DJ's trance mixes.

If you go to the Redondo beach Pier Funhouse, go to the back corner, and put a quarter in this relic from a simpler time. The fun starts as soon as you drop in your jing. A buzzer alarms for about a minute, but don't wait for the bird to do anything. He leans WAY back knowingly, having separated you from your hard earned cash. Ignore the fact that his eyes are on BELOW his beak, probably from a disinterested worker slapping these things together. Maybe it used to do more, but now it just drops an egg when the siren is done. The prize? A reindeer head. So the only thing to do was cut off it's antlers, put it back in the egg, and drop it back in through a hole cut in the cage. What a rush.

Offworld: Boing Boing getting bloated?

Boing Boing is adding another subtopic to it's amazingly addictive blog. Called offworld, for gamers. As "progress happens" and a site gets bigger it needs to divide itself up to keep everyone happy. RE: Microsoft bloat, tries to be everything to everyone with every possible notion of what they might try to do with a PC. It is pretty clear from the term itself "PC Bloat"

I enjoy BoingBoing's main blog and the Gadgets too, though I sometimes wish I could get a digest with it all in one place. Boing Boing TV I find less captivating, perhaps because I can't set the pace, you become a passive observer, ala TV.

I'm not a gamer, or I might be ecstatic about a gamer subsection just for Video games.

Adding subsections with overlapping content IS an excellent way to serve more ads, because , Hey, we all gotta eat.
