VJ on a boat

My VJ setup on a houseboat. Laptop, MIDI knobs and slider controls, Circuit Bent Video Mixer, DVD player, iPod with video out, 4 way switcher, live camera feed, and top it all off with a 2 way dirty mixer. The Video was routed into and out of the mixer and laptop, with a feedback loop coming through the 4 way switcher back in to the mixer.

A beautiful day with a great group of people in attendance. We cruised around the harbor in Marina Del Rey for a few hours, jamming to the DJ's trance mixes.

Pocket DVR with LCD Screen

I am evaluating a tiny, and I mean TINY DVR for recording scratch video / audio tracks during VJ Jam sessions.

Records to MicroSD cards
Audio & Video out playback
LCD is great as a preview monitor

Biggest limitation is the 3gpp video codec and QVGA video size, Audio is Mono only. WIll be good for Youtube, a little lo-res for DVDs.

"Micro DVR with built-in 2.4" LCD Monitor; Mini 2GB SDRAM; Rechargeable Li-ion Battery; MPEG4 Compression Audio/Video Input;Output; DC 5V 800mA. resolution 320 x 240."

Cat Person Rating System

Use this handy guide to rate yourself and friends that have cats. I made this after talking with a friend that has 3 cats, but one is "not hers" it belongs to a friend.  Thus giving her a 2.5 rating on this scale.

5 cats obviously puts you in the red zone, and you may be walking around wrapped in a blanket with cats following you everywhere you go.

Washed up amusement at the Redondo Beach Fun House

If you go to the Redondo beach Pier Funhouse, go to the back corner, and put a quarter in this relic from a simpler time. The fun starts as soon as you drop in your jing. A buzzer alarms for about a minute, but don't wait for the bird to do anything. He leans WAY back knowingly, having separated you from your hard earned cash. Ignore the fact that his eyes are on BELOW his beak, probably from a disinterested worker slapping these things together. Maybe it used to do more, but now it just drops an egg when the siren is done. The prize? A reindeer head. So the only thing to do was cut off it's antlers, put it back in the egg, and drop it back in through a hole cut in the cage. What a rush.

Renting a room from Craigslist in LA

It's an interesting mix of people renting out rooms from their house or apartments in LA.

There is the older Jewish lady whose son moved out and she is trying to rent his room . The house house smelled, the backyard was full of broken lawn furniture, and the large fish tank in the living room had dying fish.

The realtor giving off all the realtor vibes, "so are you ready to move in?" with the follow up call. have you decided when you want to move in ?"

The middle-ageish guys in Redondo renting out a room. (no weird comments)

The nice Japanese man that teaches karate, whose wife is in Japan and cooks traditonal Japanese meals.

The tiny den in the front window next to the front door,( it was like a large closet) with an interesting mix of people, divorced mother and teenage son, young ex-marine, another divorcee.

there's several creepy ads on Craigslist as well, someone advertising for $1 rent if you will be his girlfriend, lots of "female only" ads, a stoner beach bum with a tiki party.

Bizarre LA, The Museum of Jurassic Technology

When you are in LA, you Must see the Museum of Jurassic Technology. A bizarre medley of art, science, and collections that will warp your mind as it tries to classify what you are seeing. It will give your brain a workout as it is presented with each turn of the many darkened corridors.

So hard to describe, for the suggested $5 donation, completely worth it.
